After weeks of social distancing, the Queensland Government is gradually easing restrictions around public gatherings. Cautiously, we look forward to seeing more local events listed on Lively50plus. If in doubt about whether a particular event is currently operating, please check with the contact person for that event.

If you do attend an event, please practice appropriate social distancing and follow the Australian Government health warnings.

Intergenerations Connect
Are you over 55 with a skill to share? If so we'd love to hear from you. All volunteer elders receive a complimentary beverage and meal for their assistance. We can also assist with transport if needed.

More info:

Please join us in co-creating an intentful community initiative that bridges the gap between generations through skill-based community sharing and learning.

Partially funded by Stockland's 'Good to Give' program as part of the Aura development.

The 'Intergenerations Connect' initiative provides a platform where over 55's can share their gifts, passions, knowledge, wisdom and skills with the younger generation. The focus is on essential 'village life' skills which promote resource-security, sustainability, health and resilience. This may include basic survival skills, bush foods, plant medicine, wood working, building, sewing/knitting/weaving, cultivating food (permaculture, edible gardens), food preparation, ecology, environmental sciences, navigation etc.

🌻Run at Mooloolah Valley Country Club each Tuesday 10am – 1pm from July – December 2019 for 24 weeks
🌻 One main retired volunteer to share their skill (although more are welcome to participate and/or assist), and one volunteer parent to assist. Depending on how difficult the skill is, parents of children under 6 are encouraged to stay and assist their child. Or alternatively, parents can rotate taking care of each others children. 🌻 Each week we adopt a similar rhythm which usually consists of welcome song, mindfulness, yoga/dance, one main skill-based activity, story time, free play and goodbye song. 🌻 All parents and elders in attendance equally contribute to facilitate the rhythm and flow of the day
🌻 Exchange for children in attendance - contribute what you can afford and resonates. Somewhere between $5 - $10 per child
🌻 Maximum of 20 children, for ages 4-10 yrs

If we get enough interest and someone to coordinate, we will run a playgroup alongside this, encouraging a wider community involvement and support. Please get in touch if you're interested in this.

Whilst the target age is 4 - 10 yrs, all ages are welcome. We believe most activities can be inclusive for all ages if the parents are involved and adjusting the activity for the age of their own child/ren. Even if the child is under 3, the parent may enjoy learning these skills as the child observes and interacts as desired.
